December Letter

Hello Crescent Quilters,

Well the big countdown to Christmas is on! There are always so many things to do in December to get ready for Christmas. It is a good kind of busy though. I feel like the most satisfying part of Christmas is giving to others. Sometimes that means reaching out to others that are less fortunate, or have suffered a loss.

I was really touched when I found out that there is someone who is putting together a quilt for the family of the fallen officer in Abbotsford, John Davidson.
40 more blocks are needed for the quilt. There is a call out to quilters to contribute to the quilt. I decided to participate in this special quilt for this family. I made a block this past weekend and have already sent it off. I put in in an envelope and took it to the post office. It required two stamps. The goal is to have all of the blocks by the end of January. When they feel the time is right and the family has had a chance to begin to settle into their new normal, the quilt will be delivered to the family in person by a police officer.

Here is a picture of the block that I made:

If this is something you wish to participate in as well, follow the directions below:

(4) 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ light background squares

(2) 3-1/2″ x 3-1/2″   blue squares (blue signifies the color of the police uniform)
(1) 3-1/2″ x 9″ blue rectangle
(2) 7-1/4″ x 7-1/4″ light color for the corners, cut in half once diagonally
Sew together the middle “cross” section. You will need to cut 1/4″ from EACH edge to make end up with a 9″ square. (the directions allow for a generous seam allowance, so I had quite a bit to trim off to square it up to 9")
Sew the light colored triangles onto the corners. Square up the finished block to 12 1/2 "

Mail the finished block to:

If you are on intagram, she will be posting all of the updates and photos of the blocks and quilt. Her identity on Instagram is mountie.mama
Hope you all have a great December. See you at the party!

Sincerely,
