2020 Crescent Quilters Community Quilt Challenge

Coming soon, Donna will come up with a new challenge for creating community quilts. Look for more information coming up in October.

The nine patch challenge from last year turned out to be very popular. Feel free to keep on creating nine patch quilts as desired until the new challenge for this year starts. Donna still has quilt batting, backing and labels to give out if you need them. (no charge) Please contact her directly to arrange getting them from her. She can also answer any questions you may have about the community quilts.

The Challenge was to create any 9 patch quilt design to donate to Peace Arch Residential Care quilt programe. A new facility has now opened up that houses 28 more people.

There are many different types of nine patch quilts. Here is a recap of the different types.

Traditional 9 patch block: Cut squares 4 -1/2". Make blocks by sewing 3 rows of three blocks. Then sew the blocks together. Your finished block will be made of a total of 9 squares. (Finished size of the block will be 12- 1/2"). Nine blocks will make one quilt. Sew rows of three blocks together, then sew the rows together. Optional -- Add sashing and borders.

Instructions for alternate design disappearing 9 patch (from Donna) Cut 5" squares. Create nine patch blocks from two different colorways. Cut a 2-1/2" strip from remaining two sides. The removed strips from one block form the border on the other. Very effective and you get a 12-1/2" block.
