Minutes Crescent Quilters September 21st, 2026

Honoured Guests – Joan Baldwin, Barb Baker, Janet Jans, Joan Whyte, Lynne Mathieson, Helen Virgo, Donna Mercer (25th Anniversary invitees)

 

Minutes Recorded- Linda Carswell-Bland

President Karen D. – thanked past executive for working with her over the past two years, and to Gloria F. who has stepped down as Program Coordinator. Karen introduced Elaine H. as the new program coordinator and Sharron G. as the new president. Sharron then carried the rest of the meeting.

 

INTODUCTION of EXECUTIVE: 

President– Sharron G.- ran the meeting 

Treasurer – Susan M. – insurance paid, $4000 in bank, $100 petty cash, and all speakers for the year are financially covered.

Secretary – Linda C-B. – read a thank you from Joanne Pettigrew whose sister received a Comfort Care Quilt courtesy of the Peace Arch Hospital. After her passing, Joanne kept the quilt and now appreciates the quilt for its comfort in her grieving. She would like to know of future shows or fundraisers Crescent Quilters undergo.

Second correspondence was from Kristina Jackson acknowledging the 100 Bags for Beads of Courage for the BC Children’s Hospital that Crescent Quilters made in the past season and thanking the group for their kindness and generosity.

 

Membership – Cherie M. – welcomed new members as of this meeting . Membership is now at 47 to 48 members with maximum being 50.

Program – Elaine H.–introduced the 2026-2027 schedule.

Brookswood – Monika M. – spoke about the monthly dates to participate in Brookswood. Members pay an annual $30 fee (January to December) to participate with the daily fee being approximately $7 or $8 depending on numbers attending. September dates are Tuesday and Wednesday 29th and 30th.

Community Quilts – Donna M.- quilts go to seniors in resident care and they get to choose their quilt.

Community Shirt Protectors – Elaine B. 

Sunshine – Carolyn S. 

Blog and Media – Gloria Friesen-in charge of social media, blogsite photos of quilts, etc.

Sharezees and Fat Quarter Draws – Lynn Dickman

 Name Tag Draw – Annette Sturgeon

 OCTOBER GARAGE SALE – Linda Carswell-Bland

 

Please see attached sheet for further info. If not selling, please do not arrive until 6:45 to give setup group time to place the tables. Sellers, please try to arrive before 6:30 so we may get a good start before the meeting begins. Please drop off goods to table on ride side of entrance hallway. We will take it from there. This will be FUN!!

 

25th ANNIVERSARY – Donna Mercer

 Crescent Quilters began as an evening group in a church in 2001 with Donna Mercer, Lynne Mathieson, and Helen Virgo still members today. At that time, a quilt was made with each member contributing a 10.5”square representative of local landscape. Donna requested a member to take over the care of the quilt and perhaps add the extra blocks. The move to Brella was 7 years ago.

 

Christmas party will be held on December 14th. A social committee is needed to organize both the December and June parties. Please contact Sharon Gibbs if interested

 

Purdy’s Fundraiser – Karen D.

 

WORKSHOPS- Karen D. will present a rope bowls and name tag course on November 7, 2026. Minimum of 10 participants needed with a fee of $5 for facility rental. Please let her know if interested. 

 A second workshop will be presented by Sharron G. on making fidget quilts. This will be sometime in the spring with date still to be decided.

 Sharezee Draw – $21 won by a new member

Show & Tell – 10 members showed quilts made since the last meeting. Gloria, Linda C-B, Cherie, and Betty showed the quilts made during the Summer Sew-Along. All photos will be on the blog in a few days.

PROGRAMS – Elaine H. named the members of each group and their job responsibility for the given month. Groups then met to talk about their presentation. Please see attached sheet for further information.

 

Meeting ended approximately 9pm.
