Quilts of Valour

In 1943, am as soon as she turned 17 and a half (the minimum age for wartime military service) Betty Allen enlisted in the Canadian Women's Army Corps and carried our wartime duties in London, England until December 1945. She married John, a Canadian soldier, and they journeyed back to Canada on the the Queen Mary, which served as a troop ship during the war years. They setteled in Alberta where they raised five children and enjoyed 68 years in a strong, happy marraige. Betty is my Mom and she's 92 years old now. Imagine our surprise and delight when the Quilts of Valour organization recently contacted her to ask if they could present her with a Quilt in honour of her military service. Mom wore her Legion cap and blazer for the ceremony and she is thrilled with her wonderful quilt. We don't know how she was nominated for this beautiful gift, but we were happy to learn that the QOV organization is remembering and honoring the women who were part of the war effort.
