January 2021

Welcome 2021!

Let's make it a good year!

Jean will be hosting a Zoom meeting on Monday January 18th at 7pm. The link will be sent to you in an email the day before. This will be a chance for those of you to try connecting to a zoom meeting who have never joined before. If you have any technical difficulties, we will try to work them out with you. Even if you have joined ZOOM meetings before, feel free to connect as well just to say hello to everyone.

Here are a couple of links to videos that will explain how to join a ZOOM meeting.
(Thanks to Linda Lee for sharing these links)

We have an exciting guest that will be a presenter for us on a ZOOM meeting on
February 8th at 7pm.

Some of you know her, she is a long-time expert quilter. Her name is Val Smith. This is something for us to look forward to as she will give us a fabulous presentation!
For the Zoom meetings, try signing into the meeting 5-10 minutes before 7pm to give yourself time to connect.

The round robin continues... For people participating in this group activity, this month's round is due on Monday January 18th.

Keep up the good work with making community quilts. We had 52 completed quilts turned in last year!

January is a great time to start a new project. If you have not already started a community quilt for this year, now is a good time to start. If making a community quilt seems like a daunting task, why not break it up into manageable parts each month. Consider using the following timeline.
January: Decide on your quilt design. (See the community quilts section for ideas from Donna.) Select and cut fabric.
February: Sew the quilt top.
March:  Sandwich the quilt. Quilt it. Donna has quilt batting, labels, and even a few backings available. Email her if you would like to have some.
April: Bind the quilt and apply a quilt label.
May/June: This is the time to catch up if you fell behind on any of the other months. Hand in your quilts to Donna. (You can hand in quilts any time, it doesn't have to be in May/June.) We are gladly accepting as many quilts as you manage to create. Don't let this timeline limit you to just one quilt. Happy sewing!

Crescent quilters were asked to share what they were up to and what they hoped was in store for 2021.
Nicky submitted the following: Well, have to admit I’ve not got much (any) quilting done the last several weeks!  We got a new puppy.....need I say more!  ‘Parker’...as in Nosey Parker, is a joy, but now I’m scrambling to get the 3rd row done before the deadline...might be the end of me yet!
> Happy New Year to everyone!

Members, we love to read about you! Please contact Gloria if you would like to submit a bio for our February news letter. If you don't have time for doing up a whole bio, a short entry such as the one above is also welcomed. These kinds of things keep us connected.

As always, if you have connected with someone from our group that you feel needs a little sunshine, please let our sunshine coordinator, Carolyn S. know. She can send them a little sunshine.
