Before the meeting commenced, (6:30pm-7pm) members signed in, had a social chat time.
The meeting commenced at 7pm. The meeting was chaired by our President Susan. Susan welcomed
everyone. She thanked Gillian for being the Zoom host. She also thanked Lisa for Co-hosting. She
announced that in February the meeting will also be held by Zoom.
Susan received word from Seniors Come Share that all in person meetings are indefinitely on hold. They
will let us know when we can meet in person once again.
Brookswood Sew Days are also on hold.
A letter was sent from Peace Arch Hospital Residential Care thanking us for all of the quilts that we have
donated. Donna is still collecting community quilts to donate. Let her know if you need batting. She also
has labels.
Debbie, has membership cards that she will distribute when we meet in person again. If anyone wants
their card sooner, contact her directly.
Carolyn said if you know anyone that could use some sunshine to let her know.
Lisa said that she is still looking for ideas for future Zoom meetings. Someone suggested people showing
pictures of their sewing rooms.
Slide show was put together by Lisa. It was a Sew, Show ‘n’ Tell. The theme was holiday quilts.
The slide show included:
Scandinavian Gnomes table runner by Lina Lee. She used the Scan & Cut to cut the pieces out.
St. Patricks’ day table mats made by Lynne. (The pattern was from Hummingbird Highway for Bernina)
Christmas Celebration Tree Skirt (a Quiltworx pattern) by Susan. She started making the tree skirt in
2014. She finally completed it two years ago. Susan also showed aprons that she made for her “foody”
family members. Susan also showed her “Happy Heart” W.I.P. It is a project from Phippa Naylors’
Quilters’ Question Time virtual class.
A Winter Scene quilt wall hanging by Jean. She made this and then took a photo of it and used it on her
Christmas cards that she sent out. It was 12”. It contains fused trees, hand stitched sequins, white and
clear buttons for snowflakes.
A hockey team themed quilt by Debbie. Made for her grandson Garin. She also made a quick scrappy
quilt for her grand dog Duke.
Shark quilt by Carolyn. She made this as a gift for her grand daughter Emma who is at UVic studying
Biology.
A five generations quilt. The quilt had quite a story. It was made by five generations of Carole P’s family.
It was originally made in 1974. It has been updated and now has been passed on to her grandson Frank.
After the Show ‘n’ Tell slide show, Jean suggested that we talk about current projects that we are
working on. Members took turns describing and showing what they were currently working on.
A trio of gift quilts by Elaine. An owl wall hanging which was paper pieced was given to her friend that
she goes for walks with. An Orca wall hanging was made for her son. A Pelican wall hanging was for her
daughter.
“Oh Christmas Tree” wall hanging. Made by Lisa. This was one of the first quilts she made. It was paper
pieced. She made three versions all together. The one she showed us was the third one she made which
was an enlarged version of the original. She quilted it with metallic thread.
Someone suggested that we have a “Garage Sale” in the spring. A tentative date was set to have one on
May 16th. Time and place to be confirmed in the future. If it rains on May 16th, it would be rescheduled
for June.
The meeting wrapped up around 8:30pm.
