This year’s mystery will be a lot easier than last year’s – I promise! There are not a million half square triangles, and complicated layouts. In fact, this is a splendid way to use those jelly rolls that you don’t know what to do with (or those little bits left over from your last quilt – you know how it goes – they ask for .70m, but you get .80m, just to be sure...)
Fabric Selection: You really can’t go wrong, here. You can go for a scrappy look and just use whatever to have around, or you could go for a more unified and understated look. Whichever you choose, you will need a total of 16 2.5” wide strips of fabric: 8 light or medium, and 8 medium or dark. I think this design looks better with LESS contrast, so either use light and medium, OR medium and dark. If going for scrappy, choose whatever you like (fabrics may be repeated, so if you have 2 strips of one or more fabrics that you love, throw them in, or use different prints for each strip. I made one scrappy, and one in different tones of blue-green, and like them both, but in general I prefer a more unified look even in my scrappy quilts, so I just chose strips in the same colour group or groups. Make them all pink, or throw some purple in, too. Mine will be in pink/coral/yellow.
No further cutting is needed before we start, just your strips.
