January 2020 letter

Hello quilters,

Happy New Year to you! Here we are at the beginning of a new decade. I always think of myself as a relatively new quilter. Maybe it is time for me to stop thinking that. I was just thinking back to when I started my first quilt. It was during the 2010 Olympics here in Vancouver. I took a few days off from work to go enjoy the Olympics, but that didn't really happen. I was immediately hooked on quilting. I stayed home most of the time that I had intended to go to the Olympics! I feel like it has taken me a whole decade to explore different techniques of quilting. I keep looking for that one style that I will make my own. I can't say that I have found that one style yet. I am still experimenting with many different techniques.  Some of my projects have taken much longer than I intended. When I look back at all of my completed work, I realize that I have accomplished quite a bit. I can look back at my first free motion quilting, and see how I have improved since then. That is a satisfying feeling. I look forward to continue to improve. I hope to produce quilts that are even more beautiful in the future. Quilting has greatly enriched my life. When I create,  I am expressing myself in a way, but not with words.  I  just get into my zone of creativity, which which just takes me to my happy place. The colors and prints of the fabric are meshed together, and suddenly a pile of ordinary fabric forms new beauty. I don't know what exact direction my quilting will go in the next decade, but I do know that I will continue to enjoy the process!

See you all soon at the January meeting. There will be lots of time to socialize and have fun at the meeting!
