Minutes from November Meeting

Minutes: November 18, 2019

President Gloria called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
There were 33 members in attendance.
As a warm-up to the evening we broke into small groups and discussed what we knew and had tried with couching and dyeing.
Information was shared about our upcoming Christmas party:
Dec. 9, 6 p.m., hosted by Karen B. at her home at 2351 156 St.
Because there is limited parking in the area, guests were reminded to car pool if possible. Members can sign up to bring an appetizer or a dessert for dinner. There will be Show & Tell at the party and a gift exchange for people who wish to participate.
Bea presented the Treasurer’s report.
Our account balance is $3322.97 and petty cash is $165.90.
Thank you Bea for collecting the 2020 Brookswood Membership fees at the October and November meetings.
Donna M. announced that there will be a Community Quilt Challenge unveiled at the January meeting.
If you give a quilt in November or December, please specify if you want it donated to Come Share or to Peace Arch Residential Care. After January 1, all Community Quilts will go to PA Residential Care.
Lynn M. reminded us of upcoming Brookswood Days:
November 26 & 27 and December 10 & 11.
She questioned the group about their interest in a Ruler class at Brookswood. We will need a minimum of 10 participants at a cost of $25 each to make this happen. A show of hands indicated that many members would like to take this class. A short discussion followed on Quilting with rulers and types of Ruler feet. A good source of information is “Westalee Rulers” on line.
Snack was provided by Darlene W. and Carole N.
The meeting was adjourned.
Our speaker was Robin Fisher who showed some beautiful quilts and inspired us to try surface embellishment and hand dyeing in our work.

November Show & Tell

Faith M. - A red table runner that featured black highlights and extensive custom quilting.
Carolyn S. - a red & yellow log cabin and a blue and lime green quilt made from an ocean themed panel.

Gwen A. - a wine tote and a colourful
Stack & Whack quilt
Helen V. - 7 shirt protectors, 4 fidget quilts and a black & turquoise community quilt with a pinwheel pattern.
Vivian C.- modelled a grey and dark pink shawl she had knitted.
Some people hinted that she has gone to the dark side, choosing knitting over quilting but Vivian stood firm.
Nicki A.- 2 brightly coloured crocheted throws
Nicki A..- a potholder featuring a variety of novelty stitches, and a
self-designed Chickadee block which she hopes will be the first of several birds for a whole quilt.
