April newsletter

Due to Covid 19, Crescent Quilters' meetings are on pause.

Seniors Come Share Centre will let us know when we can resume having our meetings.

This month our newsletter is composed of items submitted by our members.

Be sure to check out the online Sew, Show 'n' Tell, Heartwarming Stories, and Chuckle of the month. We also have a Zoom meeting planned! Check out the link for details.

Even though we are not holding meetings, the community quilt nine patch challenge continues. Once we start having meetings again, we will be collecting completed community quilts. In addition to this, Seniors Come Share Society has put a call out to home made masks. They can be put in the mail slot at Debbie's house. She will drop them off.

Looking ahead to next year--We will need someone to fill the position of Program Coordinator. If you are willing to volunteer for this position, please let Gloria or Donna know.

The following is a message from Ros:

Greetings Crescent Quilters,
What better time than the presentto look for and share some silver linings and CQ Quilter snippets of positivity to raise spirits?   I think the (attached) video is particularly inspirational and encourage you to share it widely.
There are so many examples of heart-warming stories and/or spontaneous displays of solidarity, camaraderie, support as people come together in displays of compassion that I look forward to hearing about in these challenging times…
·      enthusiastic cheering for all the people who put themselves on the line       providing essential services;
·      unsung heroes emerging in time of need;
·      talented musicians serenading housebound residents;
·      generous donations of food and funds;
·      sharing medical equipment and expertise;
·      pivoting production efforts from fashion and rockets to medical supplies;
·      uplifting and fun social media exchanges that brighten the day;
·      small scale inspirational pay-it-forward gestures; and/or
·      beautiful thoughts, such as “The light of humanity shining through the darkness, small and large   remind us of who we are and the world we want to build when this is all over.”
On a quilting focused topic….Linda B and I came up with a 2-prong accountability strategy…I think continuing/restoring/reactivating accountability groups (maybe on the basis of previous Quilting Buddies) hold a lot of promise...for me, our plan has been a perfect way to restore peace of mind, especially for those times when my spirits dip.
Linda and I adopted who challenges:
 (1) Fabric Art Challenge
This is similar to one I enjoyed in a previous group (which included super star quilters like Karen Berry, Liz Aubert and Robin Fisher) that met once a month. Usually the challenge was a very small project with very loosely defined parameters (e.g. use heat responsive fabrics or re-purposed items).
Report: Idea - replicating a design pictured on an art card - progress temporarily on hold due to current pressing items that have moved to the top of my To Do List.
(2) SABLE (stash Acquisition Beyond Life Expectancy)
Report: Within days, I completed a a kids’ community/ charity quilt (see below…which I had offered to finish for someone else years ago, and has been hanging around for years.

With much gratitude for all you do - Great Big Hugs, Lots of Love and Stay Safe.
Wishing you all the very best,
Ros
